John Chapman, Managing Director of TQ Invest said:

"There was a big change to the line up of funds being chosen by our investors in the last month with Invesco Perpetual’s High Income Fund, not just being knocked off top spot, but not even appearing in the top five. However, it has been replaced by another of Neil Woodford’s funds; Monthly Income Plus. The ISA season always has a major impact on the funds being chosen as the volume of trades more than quadruples. Other new entrants to the top five include Fidelity South East Asia and Marlborough Special Situations. Both are fine examples of funds in their peer group and it’s no surprise to see them in this list, along with First State and Newton.

"I also feel the dramatic shift towards emerging markets funds was also a result of the ISA buying season. Income investors tend to invest over the course of the year, rather than at the beginning or end of the tax year. This fact was also reflected in the sales of our Six of the Best portfolios.

"Another trend to come out of the sales figures is the increased appetite for risk amongst investors. This is more than likely a sign that investors feel more confident that equities can deliver returns without the wild volatility seen in 2011."
